Well, whether you pay attention to pesticides on your food or not, Sarah’s joining us now to remind you just what foods are LOADED with them!

That’s right, The Dirty Dozen isn’t just a war movie from the sixties ladies, it’s ALSO a scary list, so let’s dive right in! Every year, the Environmental Working Group has put out its Shopper’s Guide to Pesticides in Produce and designated its “Dirty Dozen.” These are the fruits and vegetables with the highest traces of pesticides… and topping this year’s list was spinach, followed by strawberries. Cracking the top twelve for the first time were blackberries – which hadn’t been tested by the USDA before – and potatoes, thanks to a growth regulator that gets applied AFTER harvest! More than NINETY PERCENT of samples on this list tested positive for potentially harmful levels of pesticide. A good reason to go organic, if you can.

You can also add Jolly Rancher CANDY to the list of things that might not be so great for us. This according to the UK’s Food Standards Agency who lists several Jolly Ranchers candies as “unsafe to eat.” They say the candies contain ingredients that can not only increase the risk of cancer, but can also alter your DNA. The Hershey Company, which is America and makes the popular candy, has been working with the UK government to remove the affected candies from the UK market.

And Wednesday was a good day to buy Papa John’s – the stock, that is, not an actual pie! Reason is 2 investment firms approached Papa John’s International with a deal to take it private, worth about 2 billion dollars. The news drove the shares up by seven-and-a-half percent. The pizza chain is one of the largest in the world with 5500 locations across 49 countries.
