I’m Angel Banks, and THIS, is Naked News. Is it the beginning of the end for music festivals? Frankie explores that situation later in Turn It Up. First up though, we have the headlines with our extraordinarily sexy guest anchor, Bree Brooks. She’s looking at the fall in TV viewership, the rise in STREAMING and microplastics found in GLASS, of all things! Take it away, Bree!

Thank you Angel, it’s official: more than a quarter of Americans no longer watch live TV on an average day. And the shift is happening pretty rapidly – that was the case for twenty-eight percent of respondents, while it was twenty-four percent last year and twenty percent in 2023. Not surprisingly, the change is being driven by young people – among Gen Z respondents, that number was FORTY-ONE percent!

In a related story, May was a historic month for streaming. While streaming has been the most popular type of TV viewing for a while, May marked the first time more TV was watched that way than broadcast and cable viewing, COMBINED! And we can chalk it up to YouTube – in May, YouTube accounted for TWELVE-AND-A-HALF percent of ALL TV viewership, the highest share EVER achieved by a streamer!

And if you’re worried about microplastics, here’s some surprising news out of France: drinks sold in glass bottles actually contained more microplastics than those sold in plastic bottles! In fact, the study by France’s food safety agency found that the level of microplastic particles was five to FIFTY times higher in the glass bottle drinks! Apparently, the culprit was the paint on the outside of the bottle caps, so the good news is THAT should be fixable!
