Sometimes I live in a small town where the main source of income is collecting petrified tree sap. There isn’t much practical use for it. All I ever see amber being used for is jewelry and decorative purposes. No Dinosaur DNA. No Jurassic Park. But the people still have enough reason to sift through muddy water or risk their lives mining the sea to acquire amber. Young men are lost every year to diving accidents. The process also rips up the environment. The silver lining is the perfect muddy setting it creates along the shore for me to photograph Sofia Orlova.
